John 1:14

Catechism Quote of the Day

To say the Creed with faith is to enter into communion with God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and also with the whole Church, which transmits faith to us and in whose midst we believe. The Creed is the spiritual seal, our heart’s meditation and an ever present guardian; it is, unquestionably the treasure of our soul. (CCC #173)

The Nicene Creed that we profess at Mass every Sunday and solemn feast reminds us of three things: The first is that God loves us enough to show himself to us through revelation. The second is that it professes our belief that God is our constant companion throughout history who will never abandon us. The third is that it is our bond of unity with each other forged through constant reflection of Scripture and Apostolic Tradition on the mystery of God, which never changes, but deepens in meaning.

North American Martyrs, Pray for us!

Today is the Feast of Sts. Isaac Jogues and John De Brebeuf and their companions who were martyred by Huron and Iroquois Indians in what is now upstate New York. They gave their lives for Christ and the spread of the Gospel between 1642 and 1649. These are Jesuit priests we can be proud of.

Father, you consecrated the first beginnings of the faith in North America by the preaching and martyrdom of Sts. John and Isaac and their companions. By the help of their prayers, may the Christian faith continue to grow throughout the world. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.

Amen.

St. Luke Pray for us

Today is the Feast of St. Luke the Evangelist. Known as the Holy Physician, he is the patron of doctors and nurses. Say a prayer today for all doctors and nurses and the sick and dying that they care for.

Father, you chose Luke the Evangelist to reveal by preaching and writing the mystery of your love for the poor. Unite in Heart and Spirit all who glory in your name, and let all nations come to see your salvation. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your SOn, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.

St. Ignatius of Antioch- Pray for us

St. Ignatius on the Eucharist from the Letter to the Ephesians (#20)

If Jesus Christ, yielding to your prayer, grants me the favor and it is his will, I shall in the subsequent letter which I intend to write to you, still further explain the dispensation which here I have only touched upon, regarding the New Man Jesus Christ- a dispensation founded on faith in him and love for him, on his Passion and Resurrection, I will do so especially if the Lord should reveal to me that you – the entire community of you! -are in the habit, through grace derived from the name, of meeting in common, aminated by the one faith and in union with Christ Jesus- who in the flesh was of the line of David, the Son of Man and the Son of God- of meeting, I say to show obedience with undivided mind to the bishop and the presbytery, and to break the same Bread, which is the medicine of immortality, the antidote against death and everlasting life in Jesus Christ

Grant that the victory of St. Ignatius of Antioch may bring us your constant help and it brought him eternal victory. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen
